Unity Walk - Organized by Gen Whitlock, Montclair, NJ

Glen Whitlock, a Montclair High School Junior, organized the 2020 Unity Walk Protest in Montclair, New Jersey. It was an extremely phenomenal success. It was a peaceful, yet powerful protest against school segregation, lack of Black teachers and leaders in our district, the Eurocentric curriculum, lack of mandatory teacher training sessions, the overall culture, and any traces of racism.

Although Montclair High School is highly diverse, it is evident that there is loads of work to be done. We demand integrated learning to be established as it would combat the tracking systems that affect black students as well as all students of color.

"Our school may be diverse, but its clear once you step into a classroom, we have a lot more work to do! We demand that integrated learning be established at MHS. Integrated learning would combat the tracking systems that affects students of color every year." - Gen Whitlock

Racism is a disease that does exist in America, however, it is our obligation to dismantle it slowly, effectively, and expeditiously. We shall make strides to embody love and teach others by example that love can and will conquer all.

Let’s all make the commitment to help change our world for the better. It is time for a change and has been for many years.
